The summer season has kicked off with the first Slalom Grand Prix having being held at Skiworld in Benoni on the 6 October, with the introduction of the world class Malibu Response LXI Silver Edition, a boat packed with every possible extra one can imagine for both weekend and tournament skiers alike, from hot water shower, to booming sound system, through to the drive by wire 400 Hp Hammerhead engine, ideal for use on the Highveld. South African Tournament Waterskiing is proud to announce that Boating International, with branches in Edenvale Johannesburg and Durban agreed to a sponsorship of the premier slalom waterskiing tournament in South Africa, the Grand Prix series.
The Malibu Response LXI has consistently remained the tournament boat of choice over the past three years, for the best slalom skiers in South Africa and recently won the tournament boat shootout competition in Florida USA again proving that Malibu boats are without equal in the world of waterskiing, having once again proven at the recent 2007 French Open that world records are broken more consistently behind a Malibu than any other tournament water-ski boat.
The Slalom Grand Prix series pits Southern Africa’s best slalom water-skiers against each other in a series that covers no fewer than 8 events staged throughout South Africa and Namibia during the 2007/2008 summer season. This will enable spectators and action sport viewers to follow the series on MNet Supersport throughout the summer waterskiing season.
The weekend of the 6 October came along with forecasts of 80% chance of rain and the forecasters got it right this time, however this did not stop Richard Levey of Gauteng with two rounds of 3 buoys on 11.25m line, just one buoy short of his own SA slalom record and Gabriella Viljoen with a best score of 4.5 buoys on 13m from setting excellent scores during the break in the weather. With the Malibu Grand Prix moving down to Bon Esperanza in Cape Town on the 8th December we can look forward to some exciting scores this season.
